Privacy Policy

Account data. When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, display name, and profile picture URL. We store these in our database alongside an internal user ID.

Things you do on Animaruni.Your favorites, your watch library (status, episode progress, and scores), and any community posts, comments, and votes you make. For favorites and library entries we also snapshot the anime's title and cover image so your profile loads quickly.

Messages you send us. If you use the contact form, we store your email address, the topic, and your message.

Technical data. Our servers keep operational logs — start-up messages, errors, and database diagnostics — used for security and debugging. These do not identify visitors: we do not log your IP address, your browser, or the pages you request. Traffic reaches us through Cloudflare, which does see those details in the course of routing it, under its own privacy policy.

We use your data to run the service: signing you in, showing your profile and library, publishing your posts and comments, and answering your messages. We don't sell your personal information, and we never use your account data — your library, ratings, or posts — to target advertising.

Where GDPR applies, our legal bases are: performance of a contractfor account features (we can't save your library without storing it), legitimate interests for anonymous analytics (you can opt out any time) and for security logging and abuse prevention.

  Routes all traffic to our servers and provides TLS, caching, and protection against attacks. Because every request passes through Cloudflare, it sees your IP address and basic request details.

  Handles the OAuth sign-in flow; provides analytics you can opt out of (see Cookies below); and shows the privacy consent message where local law requires one.

  Our advertising account. No adverts currently run on Animaruni, so AdSense sets no cookies here today; if that changes it will set its own cookies to measure and personalise them (see Advertising below).

  If you follow one of our Amazon links, Amazon records the referral so we can be credited for a purchase.

  Supplies the anime catalog. Browsing the catalog does not send personal data to AniList.

  Supplies the names of opening and ending songs. We request this from our own servers, so your browser never contacts them and no personal data is sent.

  Handle donations if you choose to make one. Payment happens entirely on their sites — we never receive your card or bank details.

These providers process data on our behalf and under their own privacy policies. We don't give any third party access to your account data for their own marketing. Advertising and affiliate partners are the exception in one narrow sense: by serving or receiving a click they observe the request themselves, as described below.

We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in across visits — it's HTTP-only, secure, and removed when you sign out. Separately, we use analytics cookies (Google Analytics) to understand which pages are useful. These give your browser a random identifier so repeat visits can be counted — they don't carry your name or email, and we never connect them to your account. You can opt out using your browser's cookie controls, a tracking-blocker extension, or Google's official Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Animaruni is free to use. Today it is funded by affiliate commissions and donations, and we plan to show adverts as well. Both are described here in full so you know exactly what is happening.

Adverts. We have a Google AdSense account, but no adverts currently run on Animaruni — no advertising cookies are set, and nothing about your visit is shared with advertisers. If that changes, Google and its partners will set their own cookies and may use them to measure performance and personalise the adverts you see, based on your visits to this and other sites. We will never pass Google your account data. You can control or turn off ad personalisation entirely in Google My Ad Center, and read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Affiliate links. Some outbound links carry a tracking tag so a retailer can credit us for a purchase. Today these are the links to Amazon: on an anime page, the merchandise, video, and theme-song music links; and on our support page, the Amazon link. If you buy something after following one, we may earn a commission from the retailer. It never costs you more, and it never changes the catalog data, scores, or ordering we show you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, advertising and analytics storage is switched off until you answer the consent message Google shows on your first visit. Your answer applies to both — declining means no advertising or analytics cookies are set.

Donating is entirely optional and needs no account with us. If you follow a link on our support page you leave Animaruni for Ko-fi, Buy Me a Coffee, or Patreon, and from that point that platform's own privacy policy and terms apply.

Payment is taken entirely by the platform. We never receive or store your card, bank, or billing details. At most we see what the platform shows us about a donation — typically the name or handle you donate under and any message you choose to attach. We don't connect that to your Animaruni account, and donating gives us no additional data about you.

• Account data (profile, favorites, library, posts, votes, comments): kept until you delete your account, then removed immediately.
• Contact messages: kept for up to 12 months so we can follow up, then deleted.
• Sign-in session: the session cookie expires after 30 days without a visit.
• Server logs: operational diagnostics only, containing no visitor identifiers. They rotate automatically and older entries are discarded as they do.
• Analytics (unless you opt out): aggregated statistics retained for up to 14 months.

You can delete your account yourself at any time from your profile page — your profile, favorites, and watch library are removed immediately.

Depending on where you live (including under GDPR), you also have the right to access the data we hold about you, correct it, receive a portable copy in a machine-readable format (JSON), restrict or object to certain processing, and opt out of analytics without affecting your use of the service.

To exercise any of these, contact our support team from the address tied to your account; we respond within seven days. If you believe we've mishandled your data, you can also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

We do not sell your personal information for money. No adverts currently run on this site, so we are not sharing personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising as the CCPA/CPRA define it. If we begin serving adverts, the advertising cookies described in section 5 may amount to sharing. Either way you can opt out: ask us through the contact form — no account needed — and we will action it. We also honour the Global Privacy Control browser signal automatically, with no action needed from you. California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect (described in this policy), to delete it (self-serve from your profile, or by contacting us), to correct it, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

Your data is stored on our servers and processed by the providers listed above, which may operate in countries other than yours (including the United States). Where required, transfers rely on recognized safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions covering the receiving provider.

We may update this policy as features change. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date in the header above, and significant ones will be called out on the site before they take effect.
